Project Description

Construction of a new rail station building as part of the Irish Government’s Transport 21 Infrastructure Investment Plan. The works comprised of forming access from the south side of Sheriff Street, canopied platform, double height station plaza with ticketing zone, kitchenette, toilets, internal staircase & external plaza encased in steel mesh canopy with external staircase.

Project was carried out on a fixed price lump sum contract. This meant that the actual costs versus budgeted costs had to be closely monitored and co-ordinated with the client & design teams e.g. overspending in one area meant that costs need to be reduced elsewhere. In addition the restrictions on project timetable meant that pre-tender negotiations and mobilisation were carried out in a very short space of time.

The project was carried out to a strict programme, the opening date for the station had been announced prior to contract award. Glenman succeeded in delivering the completed project on schedule with the official opening taking place on 12th March 2007, just 9 months after planning was granted for the project.
